We Will Rock You is based on the music of the massively successful band Queen. The jukebox musical was written by the British comedian author; Ben Elton. The author worked together with Brian May and Roger Taylor, members of the band.
The opening of the tribute musical in May 2002 at the Dominion Theatre on London’s West End was the start of its winning streak with audiences. The musical received negative reviews from critics but despite this the musical continued to sell out and audiences are still raving out the performance. The musical has been performed internationally including performances in Russia, United States, Japan, Australia, and South Africa.
We Will Rock You has caused more sensation over the years as on occasion original band members have been known to make appearances on stage. The sequel to the musical has recently been completed and is rumoured to be even better than the original. The musical includes some of Queen’s greatest hits; ‘I Want to Break Free’, ‘Under Pressure’, ‘Crazy Little Thing Called Love’, ‘These are the Days of Our Lives’ and ‘Another One Bites the Dust’.
