The story of the young Simba’s birth into the Pride Rock and all of the problems that comes with the royal line to which he belongs is told through the Lion King. In 1997 the musical of the classic musical opened in Minnesota.
The story tells of the pride of Simba’s parents, King Mufasa and Queen Sarabi, as they introduce their young son to their kingdom. Their joy at producing an heir is quickly cut short as King Mufasa’s brother sets out to destroy Simba. Scar, King Mufasa’s brother, sees Simba as a threat to his chance of the throne and the fun, animal filled story tells of Simba’s childhood and the attempts of the animals to teach and protect him.
Shortly after The Lion King’s initial opening in 1997 the musical quickly attracted the attention of Broadway where it began showing shortly after. From here it took the stage of the Lyceum Theatre on the West End where it has enjoyed over a decade of success. The production of currently running at the Lyceum Theatre and ten years on it is still producing sell out shows. The Lion King had made a flawless transition from classic Disney film to classic musical production.
