Phantom of the Opera

The Phantom of the Opera is the second longest running musical on the West End after Les Miserables. It is the longest running musical on the stage of New York’s Broadway. The musical has been performed over 9,000 times and continues to produce sell out shows.

The Phantom of the Opera has been awards with two Laurence Olivier Awards for Best Musical, a particularly prestigious wards, and Best Performance in a Musical. The success of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical has been mirrored on Broadway where it has been awarded seven Tony Awards. The Tony Awards included the award for Best Musical, Best Director, Best Costumes, Featured Actress, and Best Lighting.

The musical is based on the French novel Le Fantome de l’Opera by Gaston Leroux. The novel was made into the musical that is so well known today by Andrew Lloyd Webber, Charles Hart and Richard Stilgoe. The first performance was housed at Her Majesty’s Theatre on the West End in 1986 and later opened on Broadway in 1988. The Phantom of the Opera is currently playing at Her Majesty’s Theatre in Haymarket where it continues to struggle to meet the demand for tickets.
