The 2007 BBC television show Any Dream Will Do that attempted to seek out the ideal candidate to play the lead of the show, Joseph. The show also successfully generated a fresh surge of excitement around the classic musical of Joseph and the Technicolour Dreamcoat.
The musical has been regularly running on Broadway since 1982 and in London’s West End since 1991. The show was written but Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice, it was their second production that they have written together. The first performance of the show in its current form was at the Edinburgh International Festival in 1972. The musical has received much praise through this period including two Laurence Olivier Awards in 1991.
The biblically linked story is told through music and includes songs that have become classics such as Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door. The musical is familiar internationally as it has been performed in over a dozen countries in a professional format. It is also one of the most popular choices for school productions and amateur theatre group productions. Due to this it is considered a classic. The current rendition of the musical is playing at the Adelphi Theatre on the West End staring the BBC contests winner Lee Mead.
